Konjic Woodcarving Museum

The Konjic Woodcarving Museum tells the story of a craft UNESCO listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2017 — still practiced by around fifteen active carvers in Konjic today. Opened in June 2019 by the Nikšić family (founders of ZANAT) to mark that inscription, the building is part of the narrative: Normal Arhitektura designed it as a wormhole-inspired tunnel of 978 carved panels and 1,351 connections, carrying you from early Konjic woodcarving to the present. Galleries follow Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, Yugoslav, and contemporary eras through photographs, tools, video, and furniture from the Nikšić and Mulić families across four generations. Carvers work four pattern traditions; notable works include ceremonial chairs for Pope John Paul II. The oldest exhibit is a 19th-century sehara inherited in the Nikšić family. In 2022 the museum won the Živa Award (best Slavic museum) and the Luigi Micheletti Award from the European Museum Academy. Open daily 10:00–18:00; entry 10 KM (~€5); allow 45–60 minutes. It sits on the Mostar road at the edge of town — combine with the Old Stone Bridge and a Bosnian coffee in the centre for a cultural break between adventure days.
